The Diner

It's 5 P.M. in the evening and I hear the vibration coming from my phone along with the bright light. The notification was a text from a group chat. In my mind I'm thinking when was I ever in the group chat. The only contact I have in my phone is Lamar.

It read: " Good evening guys. As you all know the death of Mr. Evans has been the mystery of the century in this apartment complex. I wanted to reach out and see if you all can meet me at Alice's around 7 P.M. I hope to just have a civil discussion. Thanks!"

My thoughts following the text lead with confusion. What did he want to pick my brain about with Mr. Evans? Should I even go? Who else will be attending?

Fast forwarding to around 6:30 P.M. I decided to get ready to leave to meet the mystery clique at Alice's. Once I arrive I see familiar faces from around the complex however, I have never had a conversation with any of them before. I start to feel a sense of embarrassment as I am one of the youngest people at this meeting. Mr. Lamar has two chairs placed in front of the rest of the group. What is this an interrogation? I definitely wasn't prepared for all of this. My anxiety went through the roof. Like what was I even supposed to say about Mr. Evans?

I glance towards the door then back at the group.

Mr. Lamar says, " Hey Starr thank you so much for joining me today".

" No problem sir but I don't think I can stay. I feel like I'm going to throw up".

The weird vibe in the diner was throwing me off completely and I had to leave or everyone would be able to see what I had for lunch.
